Groundhog Day Brunch

10

This year I invited my family over for a small Groundhog Day Brunch. It was a smaller scale celebration than last year, mainly because my house is a lot smaller and I am 8 months pregnant! Decorating for parties is one of the last things my baby belly wants me to do these days. So, I kept it simple with some yummy breakfast items featured in the movie, Groundhog Day and some sweets.

I will share my mom’s Sticky Bun recipe someday. It is super easy and delicious.

My favorite part of the brunch were the little cake ball groundhogs that I made. They were dipped in dark chocolate and decorated with butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, white chocolate and premade (store bought) candy eyes. I found little paper doilies to set them on (Martha Stewart craft section of Michaels) and piped some green frosting around their heads to make them look like they were popping out of the grass.

After eating, we all watched the movie together for the millionth time. It never gets old, I promise.

We also played trivia games again this year. My brother Jared was in charge (since it really isn’t fair when he plays; he is bound to beat the crap out of every one) & the prize was a roll of quarters. If you ever get bored, go onto IMDB.com and check out the random facts about Groundhog Day, some of them are pretty great.

Overall, it was another successful Groundhog Day celebration!

And remember, its never too early for flapjacks!

Until next year, woodchuck-chuckers.
